abnormally large file size and slow opening/ saving speed

hi all,

I am currently encountering a persistent issue that only seems to affect one of our designers.

Alot of their simple scenes are coming out at around 4-5gb and taking almost 20 mins to open and save.

I’ve taken the following steps to try eliminate the problem but with no luck:

  • I removed all materials and applied the same diffuse to all parts

  • i deleted every single piece of geometry within the scene and the file size remained the same

  • tried “saving as” and it came out the same size

  • created a new scene and tried importing the bip file into this but it would freeze and crash

This is only occurring with one user in our team but due to needing to work one each others files, its becoming a big issue.

Our workflow is SolidWorks and Keyshot and we all follow the same best practices in both programs so i dont think is it down to something specific this user is doing wrong.

has anybody else had this issue?

TIA

Not much of a help but there are more with this problem: HUGE files, that still work, but defy streamlining (corrupt?) - Help & Troubleshooting - Luminaries (keyshot.com)

Because I like to test beta’s I also tried to reproduce this issue but so far no luck.

Are you starting with a bloated template BIP/KSP file? As in the other post, we seemed to have narrowed down that it is our template file we are importing in that ends up making the files huge. To solve this, we have rebuilt our template BIP/KSP to be much smaller and more simple so this issue doesn’t arise. Our file sizes went from couple GB to couple hundred MB.

We assume the root causes is the KSP files are compiling over time and building bigger and bigger like a rolling snowball. We have tried deleting everything and kept just a basic cube, but we still have the same file size.
